Designing Your Mailing Piece for the Post Office
If you are thinking about mailing your piece in a standard envelope, the main thing you need to remember is to have a mailing indicia printed onto the envelope at the same time you are printing your return address. Printers do not charge extra for this, but if we have to add an indicia (that’s the presorted mailing permit number printed in a box where the stamp usually goes), that can easily double the cost of your envelopes. We can send you a pdf of our indicia in case you will be printing and designing your own mailing piece and want to use our permit number. While we would be happy to get you a printing quote, we are most happy to accept deliveries from your own printer if you are happy with them. It is very important however, to show us a proof before you go to press just to make sure that the post office rules for automated discount is followed. You can fax or email us with a proof and I will let you know right away whether there is a problem or not.
By the way, if you use a mailing shop like us, you don’t need to have your own permit at all! If you are a commercial business, we use our own indicia to mail your mail. If you are a not-for-profit – all you have to do is apply to the post office for your non-profit privileges. They will give you what is called a ‘ghost number,’ and we can mail using our permit. That doesn’t cost you a penny.
Let me also add here that in case you want me to design your mailer, I have done many. I have also designed newsletters and even newspapers and my design fees are reasonable. If you are interested in having us work on your design, please call me.
